Insurance Tips

Back to Tips Index | Insurance and Riot/Terror Cover

Unfortunately, this is the new reality. In general, all damage resulting from terror attacks are covered by the department of Mas Rechush (All of us contribute indirectly to this via other tax payments.)

1. What is the procedure if my car is stoned?
Firstly, report to the police. Then you should go to an assessor who is recognized by Mas Rechush. The telephone number for Mas Rechush in Jerusalem is 654 5222.

Then you have to ask your insurance agent to obtain a non-claims letter from your insurance company stating that you have not made an insurance claim for the same incident. This should be faxed directly to the assessor. (Just a side note: You should make sure that in your motor policy you have cover for reinforced windows- they cost more and have to be insured for more.)

2. What is the procedure if my home, business is damaged by a terror attack?
Until, recently, it was left to the citizen t make a claim against his insurance company. However, after the events of the past few weeks, the government has agreed to pay for all damage that is not insured or that the insurance company does not cover.

3. Is "loss of profits" covered (e.g. industries directly affected – hotels, tourist shops, etc.)
This too is now being covered by Mas Rechush.

How do I claim?
You should call Mas Rechush and arrange for an assessor to see the damage as soon as possible. Claim forms can be downloaded from the web site of the Finance Ministry.

Can I insure my property for Riot/Terror cover?
You can, but the cover is limited to areas within the green line only. The advantage of such cover is that you will get the full value of the damage without argument or delay.
